Songs of Rumi

Jelalu'd-Din Rumi was Persia's greatest mystical saint poet. In 1244, his fairly normal life as a householder and university professor completely changed when he met the wandering dervish Shams of Tabriz who threw all his books into a well. During the next three years they entered into long periods of of mystical communion called Sohbet. The transformation in Rumi was quickened and became a spontaneous river of poetry born of his continuous encounter with the Friend. Coleman Bark's new translations of this great Sufi poet are full of spontaneity and down to earth transcendence. Surya's clear song settings capture the humor, tenderness and wonder of Rumi's message. These subtle and transparent arrangements feature Surya's rich baritone vocals and eight string guitar.
